Chapter One: Introduction

Indigenous metalwork is an integral part of the cultural and economic fabric of Bida Local Government Area, Niger State. Renowned for its brasswork and intricate designs, the Bida metalwork tradition reflects the creativity, skill, and heritage of the local community. However, despite its cultural significance, the visibility of Bida’s metalwork remains limited, both locally and internationally. Photography, as a visual art and documentation tool, has the potential to showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of indigenous metalwork, connecting artisans to broader markets and audiences. According to Yusuf and Adebayo (2024), visual representation through photography can enhance cultural preservation, attract tourism, and promote economic growth. 1.2 Statement of the Problem
